Our attempt was bit of an improvised job as it wasn't exactly planned and more a spur of the moment thing.
You basically need crayons , a canvas board, a Hot glue gun and a hairdryer.
You use the glue gun to stick the crayons to the top of the Canvas. Hold your hairdryer over the crayons and after a few minutes the crayons will start to melt and the wax will run down the canvas. You may need to go over the crayons again to make sure you get an even melt.
Variations of the activity involve using a whole pack of crayons using all the different shades and others iv'e seen use shades of only one colour to fit in with a particular room theme.
As I said ours was a an impromptu activity so used cardboard instead of canvas and had only a few colours of crayons that were whole!
I wouldn't recommend the cardboard though as the melted wax did leave a greasy mark of the cardboard which isn't great if you wanted to display it afterwards.
Still it filled an hour and the children enjoyed it. It was also a little lesson on melting and heat for my preschooler.
How they can look when you plan it properly with the right equipment!
